Designing Parts For a Robot With CAD (Computer-Aided Design) In SOLIDWORKS

With the new robotics season starting in early September, our team began brainstorming ideas for this year’s challenge. Once we settled on our main robot concept, it was time to start designing. I worked on creating the intake and shooter mechanisms in SOLIDWORKS, focusing on making them both efficient and compact enough to fit within the size limits.

Designing these parts required a lot of attention to detail - small measurements made a big difference in how the pieces would connect and move. I had to think carefully about how the mechanisms would interact and how to make them easy to build and adjust later. It was a mix of creativity and problem-solving, and I enjoyed seeing my ideas take shape on screen.

Even though the designs might still change, this stage helped me improve my CAD skills and understand how early planning affects the whole robot-building process.
