Making a Desert for the School's Annual Bake Sale (Trying out a New Recipe for a Christmas Dish)
For the school’s annual bake sale, I decided to make varškės tinginys, an alteration to the traditional Lithuanian dessert that is quick to prepare and widely enjoyed. I followed the basic recipe using ingredients such as varškė, butter, condensed milk, and biscuits, but I also wanted to make it more personal. To do this, I added poppy seeds and white chocolate, slightly changing the texture and flavor from the traditional version. Although this made the dessert quite different from the classic tinginys, the result turned out really well and was well received.
This experience allowed me to combine tradition with creativity. I enjoyed experimenting with the recipe while still respecting its original idea. Preparing the dessert also required planning and responsibility, as it needed to be made in advance and set overnight. Through this activity, I learned that small changes can transform something familiar into something unique, and that creativity can be expressed even through traditional recipes.
